Mustang Horses - Breeders - Associations
Mustang Horses - UsesThough Mustang Horses were not feral animals when they arrived into the New World, they survived and thrived in unusual conditions due to versatility and strength. Genetic imperfections were culled in the Mustang Horse, resulting in sturdy horses that could perform well in almost any equine field. People used Mustangs as cow horses and as cavalry mounts. At present Mustangs are competing in team penning, dressage, jumping, competitive trail, showing, and gymkhana.
Mustang Horses - Taxonomy
Mustang Horses - DescriptionThere exist several subspecies of Mustangs: Nokota, Kiger, Sulfur, Spanish and others. All Mustangs are medium-sized, well balanced, smoothly built horses with proportional weight. They are smooth muscled with short backs, rounded rumps, and low set tails. Their girth is deep and they have rather pronounced withers. Mustangs possess the classic Spanish type head with a straight or concave forehead, convex nose, and short ears curved towards each other. Mature stallions have heavily crested necks. Chest of Mustangs are narrow but deep. Their feet are extremely sound and resist bruising due to the concave sole. Colors and patterns of Mustang Horses are extremely varied, including dun, grulla, buckskin, overo, and sabino paints, as well as the more common colors of bay, chestnut, black, and white.Mustang Horses - Breeders LinksCanyon Creek Kigers - Breeders of Kiger Mustangs offering horses for sale and the tale of the origin of the breed.
